Using Tinctures
We believe that herbal extracts (tinctures) are the most effective and
beneficial way to ingest herbs. Many are not water- soluable, and
therefore alcohol is necessary to extract all of the beneficial
properties of the plants. Tinctures are also easily assimilated by the
body because the liquid form allows them to be absorbed immediately into
the bloodsteam. They are especially convenient to keep and carry with
you, and require no refrigeration.
Dancing Willow herbs uses only pure grain alcohol and spring water
to prepare extracts. Pure grain alcohol functions as a preservative and
a potent solvent. Our plants are tinctured by cold process perculation
or by maceration. Proper tincturing requires alcohol contents of 50-60%
in order to properly extract and preserve a medicinal's quality and
shelf life.
Our tinctures are made according to the highest quality standards,
using only freshly harvested plants. These extracts are
laboratory-standard preparations as specified in the U.S. Pharmacopia
and the National Formulary, both reliable and traditional guidelines
for botanical tinctures. Our tinctures can be expected to retain their
potency for at least three years.
It is always reccomended to dillute tinctures in 1/4 to 1/2 cup of warm
water or mild herbal tea prior to taking them. If consuming alcohol is
undesireable, we recommend dropping the desired amount of tincture into
freshly boiled water and letting it stand for five minutes. This will
allow the alcohol to evaporate.
